So You Want To Be A Barrister…

…well you absolutely can be.

While a career at the Bar is extremely competitive, with hard work, a can-do attitude and resilience, there’s nothing preventing you from entering, and indeed excelling in the profession.

This website is designed to guide and provide tips to aspiring barristers (particularly those who are based in the U.K.) in making their journey to The Bar. I’m sharing everything that I have learnt on my journey so far in a bid to make your journey easier and entry into the profession more accessible and far less daunting for the next generation of Barristers.

I know certainly for myself, as a young Law student I found it near impossible to come across Barristers and especially ones that I related to. Even if you are at a more formative stage of your studies (as a college student, for instance), my hope is that this website provides you with some guidance and support during what will be a challenging pursuit of The Bar.

In the following blogs, I’ll be explaining the different educational routes available for aspiring barristers and indeed, how one works out they even want to be a Barrister in the first place! You should also expect to see some blogs on commercial awareness and my views on topical legal issues.

But before I get into that, I’d like to take this opportunity to personally welcome you to this website and say hello!

My name is Fahmida Choudhury and I am a U.K. based aspiring barrister. I am a British-Bangladeshi who comes from a working-class background and am in the first generation of my family to have attended higher education.

I studied Law for my undergraduate degree and then worked as a Paralegal for two years, both within a Solicitor’s Firm and Barrister’s Chambers. I will be beginning my BTC, with a joint LLM Masters degree in the next few months and hope to come out the other end as a fully-fledged Barrister.

Outside of Law, I am a lifestyle blogger who enjoys travelling and when I’m not travelling, can be found dining my way through London. I’m a fan of contemporary art and an avid reader.
